The F/V Thalassa

Thalassa is a Greek word for 'sea' as well as the divine female personification of the sea in Greek mythology. A primordial Greek goddess of the sea, she is described as mother of the fishes. Some may consider the sea a cruel beast, but Thalassa claimed that she was a calm goddess and the dangers of the sea were brought about by the actions of the winds, the Anemoi.

The fishing vessel (F/V) Thalassa was built in 1978 at Master Marine in Bayou La Batre, Louisiana. It traveled through the Panama Canal in the early 90's and fished around the state of Alaska, with it's home port being Cordova. She has called both Kodiak and Seward home before coming back to Cordova in 2022.

Under a few names, owners, and hired skippers;  the boat has fished for halibut, black cod, pacific cod, crab and tendered for a number of species of fish around the State.

We spend the summer months tendering salmon in Prince William Sound. In the off season we are available for other charters, using the large and comfortable platform that the Thalassa provides. This can range from transporting large materials on the open deck to housing skiers for a week of ski mountaineering in Prince William Sound.

The Thalassa is 86' long, 23' wide and draws 11'. Living accommodations are comfortable, with three staterooms (each with double bunks,) a full head with shower, a galley with full size appliances and lots of dry storage.

For tendering, the Thalassa has a large automatic fish pump which can quickly transfer fish from either seine nets or fish holds and keep them cold in our fish holds.  We also buy fish from the gillnet fleet with two cranes on board.  We pack a total of 175,000 pounds of salmon in two holds.
